Atletico Madrid unable to sign players until 2018 after losing transfer ban appeal

City rivals Real Madrid were issued with a similar ban at the same time but have already seen theirs reduced. Diego Simeone's side will be able to sign new players, but they will not be able to officially register them for competition until next year similar to what Barcelona did when they signed Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan in 2015 while serving a ban.

Atletico have agreed a move for Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette last month but that move is doomed to fail while any chance of Diego Costa returning from Chelsea is likely dead.
