Finally, Osinbajo signs N7.4tn 2017 budget
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday signed the 2017 Appropriation Bill into law.
The acting president upon his return from a trip to Anambra State, was joined by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Minster for Budget and planning, Sen Udo Udoma at the State House Abuja for the budget signing ceremony.
Osinbajo had only two days ago been given the go ahead by President Muhammadu Buhari, who is away in London on a medical vacation, to sign the budget into law.
It would be recalled that the federal legislators had in May passed the record budget plan, which is bigger than the 7.298 trillion naira draft spending plan submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2016.
The presidency had stated that the budget signing was being delayed because it was being looked at by the executive, to ensure there were no ‘foreign items’ in the document different from what had been submitted to the legislature.
observers however say, Osinbajo may have been bidding time, waiting to get the go-ahead from his principal to sign the budget
